Botswana Tennis Association (BTA) is this year hosting the prestigious Davis Cup for a second consecutive year. The Davis Cup, widely known as the World Cup of tennis, will be bringing 14 African countries to compete for the spot in the African group IV.
Among these are Lesotho, Madagascar, Seychelles, Libya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Uganda, among others. Last year, the Botswana team made up of US based Denzel Seetso, Mark Nawa, Tsholofelo Tsiang, and Botswana based Esi Molefe and Seabo Saleshando missed the elevation spot by a whisker losing in deciding doubles to Gabon.
This year, the team comes in strong, firm, and willing to get a promotion to the group IV. In an exclusive interview, BTA President has said that Botswana’s squad will be beefed with leading junior player Ntungamili Raguin. Raguin, who recently won a J100 ITF Juniors tour event in Egypt, will be a key player in getting Botswana the ties needed to make it to the higher group.
Botswana has this year also put up a 10-player squad to enhance its chances to proceed. Following a successful season and high attendance, BTA will this year be using the centre court, which comes in as a bigger arena than court 2 for home ties.
In other tennis news, Botswana will this coming week, dated 14th June 2025, host the Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) 14 & Under championships. The Botswana squad is made up of defending champions in the girls’ category, Malak Macheng, Rerotlhe Kgannyeng, and Camilla Seetso, among others. In the Boys category, Tinashe Phatshwane, who seeded number three in the tournament, will be leading the Botswana team alongside Lebone Tlape and Letso Mesotlo.
