President Boko has announced key milestones that the government has been able to achieve in the past year in government.
Delivering his State of the Nation Address (SONA) this afternoon in Gaborone, Boko revealed that through its series of turnaround strategies, Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) has seen a payment turnaround shift from paying within months to paying cattle farmers within exactly seven days.
Boko stated that the Ngamiland region is a great beneficiary from BMC’s strategic implementation plans. He said that the region through government’s direct cattle scheme has availed market access for farmers. He added that the market access has heightened the government’s efforts for renewed livestock production from 1 million cattle to 5 million cattle by 2030.
Moreover, the president has said that agriculture represents a larger portion of Botswana’s Gross Domestic Product(GDP).
He said that in an effort to improve the agricultural sector, the government has implemented production efficiencies through a series of agricultural value chain measures. In response to a decline in livestock, the government in August 2025 implemented animal health measures and also developed the green climate fund envisaged to improve range land resilience.
Additionally, Boko has added that the milk value will be increased through Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) strategic investment.
President Boko noted that Botswana is currently standing at 13% demand meet, and by the end of 2026, the government would have achieved a 60% market demand achievement. He added that the government has concluded a mission to acquire at least 1000 girolando in Brazil to meet the missing milk value chain.
