President Advocate Duma Boko’s visit to Project 3820 in Fuzhou, China, placed Botswana’s ambitions to develop a domestic electric-mobility industry in the spotlight, as the country sought strategic investments and technical partnerships in component manufacturing and vehicle assembly.
The engagement, undertaken during President Boko’s state visit to China, formed part of Botswana’s broader strategy to attract foreign direct investment, strengthen local industrial capacity, and diversify its economy through high-level cooperation with Chinese partners.
According to President Boko, Botswana explored opportunities to establish an electric-mobility hub in the Serorome Valley, with plans encompassing the local production of electric-vehicle components and vehicle assembly. The proposed initiative aims to position Botswana to participate directly in the emerging global e-mobility value chain.
The Press Secretary in the Office of the President, Emang Bokhutlo-Mutapati, noted that the country identified a site in the Serorome Valley for the proposed hub. China was identified as an ideal partner due to its advanced expertise and technological leadership.
Project 3820, which has guided Fuzhou’s long-term urban and economic development, provided a valuable opportunity for the Botswana delegation to benchmark its own industrial transformation against China’s proven track record.
President Boko emphasized that the visit formed a vital part of the government’s ongoing search for practical, scalable development models that can be adapted to Botswana’s unique economic landscape.
