President Duma Boko is in Angola as Botswana intensifies efforts to strengthen investment opportunities and position the country for deeper economic cooperation with one of its key regional partners.
The visit forms part of Botswana’s broader drive to attract investment, expand trade, and identify opportunities for economic diversification, with bilateral discussions expected to place significant emphasis on trade and investment cooperation.
President Boko’s engagement in Angola will also provide Botswana with an opportunity to explore lessons and potential partnerships in strategic sectors, including energy and industrial development.
As part of the itinerary, the President will undertake a site visit to the Lobito oil refinery, giving Botswana insight into Angola’s developing energy infrastructure and industrial capacity. The visit comes as Botswana seeks to broaden its economic base and strengthen investment partnerships beyond its traditional sectors.
A key highlight of the trip will be witnessing the signing of an agreement to establish the Botswana–Angola Bi-National Commission.
The commission is expected to provide an enhanced framework for coordinating, monitoring, and reviewing bilateral cooperation across areas of mutual interest and respect. For Botswana, this framework offers a structured platform to pursue investment opportunities, facilitate business-to-business cooperation, and address trade barriers.
Trade and investment will feature prominently in high-level talks, with both sides expected to explore ways to increase economic exchanges and create a more investment-friendly environment.
President Boko’s visit places Botswana’s investment ambitions at the center of its diplomatic engagement with Angola. The nation seeks to leverage regional partnerships to attract capital, access new markets, and drive sustainable economic growth.
This move aligns with Botswana’s broader economic transformation strategy, which focuses on reducing dependence on traditional revenue sources and expanding productive sectors capable of generating employment and investment.
Ultimately, the President’s engagement is viewed not only as a diplomatic engagement, but as a strategic effort to position Botswana within the regional investment landscape and forge economic partnerships that yield tangible benefits for Batswana.
