Botswana tennis continues to reach new heights, with Ntungamili Raguin achieving a career-high No. 49 in the ITF World Tennis Tour junior rankings, making him the highest-ranked Motswana player ever recorded in the junior world rankings.
Raguin’s rise represents a significant milestone for Botswana tennis and highlights the impact of the Botswana Tennis Association’s player development pathway, which has supported his progression from junior competition to the international stage.
His breakthrough season has been marked by a series of historic achievements, most recently his triumph at the ITF J200 Miki tournament in September 2026, where he defeated Australia’s top seed Mustafa Ege Sik 1–6, 6–3, 6–3 in the singles final. The victory made Raguin the first Motswana to win an ITF J200 singles title.
He also captured the J200 Miki doubles title alongside Pakistan’s Mikaeel Ali Baig, defeating the top-seeded Australian pairing 7–5, 6–2 in the final. The victory marked his second J200 doubles title of 2026.
Raguin’s achievements extend beyond the ITF circuit. At the African Junior Championships in Cairo, he won gold in boys’ doubles and silver in boys’ singles, further establishing himself among Africa’s leading junior players. He also reached the boys’ doubles semi-finals at the Wimbledon Junior Championships, another landmark achievement for Botswana tennis.
At the US Open Junior Championships, Raguin became the first player from Botswana to qualify for the junior main draw, while at the Australian Open Junior Championships, he became the first Motswana to compete in a junior Grand Slam and progressed to the last 16.
Following his Australian Open performance, Raguin climbed to No. 56 in the ITF junior rankings, a position reported by the ITF as the highest ranking previously achieved by a Botswana player. His subsequent rise to No. 49 has now set a new national benchmark.
His progress has also been evident in senior international competition. In the 2025 Davis Cup, Raguin played a key role in Botswana’s promotion from Africa Group V to Group IV, winning all five singles and doubles matches he contested during the campaign.
The 2025 season was equally productive on the junior circuit, with Raguin winning five ITF World Tennis Tour junior titles, including titles at the J60 and J100 levels. His progression from lower-level ITF junior tournaments to J200 success, junior Grand Slam appearances, and now a historic world ranking illustrates the importance of a structured development pathway for young Botswana players.
Raguin’s achievements therefore represent more than individual success. They provide a significant milestone for Botswana tennis and demonstrate how a locally developed player can progress through the national development system and compete successfully at the highest levels of international junior tennis.
With his career-high World No. 49 ranking, Raguin has established a new benchmark for Motswana junior tennis players and further strengthened Botswana’s presence on the global tennis stage.
