The inaugural Kweneng Economic Summit officially opened today at the historic Ntsweng Museum in Molepolole under the theme “Kweneng Rising: Advancing Economic Development for a Sustainable Future.”

The summit, a first of its kind in the district, was officiated by Acting President Moeti Mohwasa, who reaffirmed the government’s commitment to empowering local economies and encouraging regional investment. In his address, Mohwasa emphasised the importance of inclusive growth, innovation, and community-driven development as central to Botswana’s broader national vision.

Bringing together policymakers, business leaders, academics, and civil society, the summit serves as a strategic platform to explore investment opportunities across sectors such as agriculture, tourism, infrastructure, and digital technology. Discussions aim to unlock the district’s economic potential and align local development goals with national objectives.

The event also featured exhibitions by local enterprises, panel discussions on public-private partnerships, and networking sessions designed to foster collaboration between the government and community stakeholders.

Organisers hope the summit will result in actionable policy recommendations, public-private investment commitments, and a renewed momentum for development in the Kweneng District.

The summit will continue through May 10, with further presentations and breakout sessions focused on building a resilient, inclusive, and diversified local economy.
